Abstract The use of stated preference methods with monetary payments in developing countries can be problematic as barter and paying labor are common rural areas. In response, a growing number studies explore using nonmonetary payment options. We contribute to this literature by exploring the impact vs. options on values elicited from choice experiment conducted country settings. also comparing data-gathering methods, specifically individual surveys group information sessions. Our application is restoration an ancient irrigation system known cascading tank systems Sri Lanka. conduct understand willingness pay/willingness households restore these systems. find that survey setting, there no significant differences between payments. difference settings for treatment.
